I hesitate to put this up because it is not representative of what we eat for lunch. But I enjoyed these crabcakes so thoroughly, I thought it was worth remembering. The snack lunch Violet, being a toddler, would eschew all meals in favor of snacks if she could, so lunches and dinners are often hit [...]

A snack of sea turtles on a log
February 24th, 2011 · No Comments · food
Did I mention that V could live on snacks? At any hour of the day, there is the familiar cry, I’m hungry. Just not for lunch or dinner… Slices of apples spread with peanut butter (almond butter will also work) and dotted with raisins, cranberries or dried cherries. This is a much enjoyed riff on [...]

February 7th, 2011 · 2 Comments · celebrations, family and friends, food

The house has been cleaned and I’ve done as much decluttering as I can. We’ve pared back on our commitments and have stocked up on supplies. There are two casseroles in the [...]

Nano-farm popped!
June 3rd, 2010 · No Comments · food, gardening
All of Tig’s hard work is starting to pay off, the veggies and plants are popping! According to his calculations, we’ve eaten about $40 worth of produce so far. The nectarine and peaches are growing. V has already picked and eaten quite a few alpine strawberries – I haven’t even tasted one yet…
